By Coded TV Sports | Weekend Preview: 12–13 September 2026
A team can dominate possession, create chances and still leave the pitch with one lonely goal. That is what makes predicting football both fascinating and frustrating.
This weekend, we are looking beyond who might win. Our question is more specific: which teams have the strongest case for scoring at least twice?
Across the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1, the fixtures offer a mixture of promising home favourites, dangerous visiting teams and a few selections that deserve caution.
Our 20-team watchlist draws on current scoring projections, the opposition and home or away conditions. The figures below are model-projected team goals, drawn from StatsUltra’s forecasts checked on 11 September. They are estimates—not guaranteed scorelines, and not a claim that every team listed is enjoying excellent form.
England: Chelsea and Liverpool Lead the Scoring Watch
The Premier League’s biggest names do not automatically have the easiest route to two goals. This weekend’s opponents make a meaningful difference.
| Team to watch | Weekend fixture | Day | Projected team goals |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chelsea | Chelsea vs Hull City | Saturday | 2.9 |
| Liverpool | Liverpool vs Fulham | Saturday | 2.3 |
| Brighton | Coventry City vs Brighton | Sunday | 2.0 |
| Crystal Palace | Crystal Palace vs Ipswich Town | Saturday | 2.0 |
Chelsea have the strongest attacking projection of these four. Playing at Stamford Bridge gives them a favourable setting, and the model places their scoring expectation close to three goals.
There is a reason to avoid getting carried away, however. Hull’s opening three league games produced three clean sheets. Chelsea’s attacking quality faces an opponent whose early defensive results deserve respect. Hull’s early-season defensive record
Liverpool’s home meeting with Fulham looks promising. Their 2.3-goal projection puts them ahead of most Premier League teams this weekend. The model lists 2–0 and 2–1 among the leading possible scorelines, supporting their inclusion in the two-goal conversation.
Brighton and Crystal Palace complete the selection. Both carry a 2.0-goal projection, with Palace benefiting from a home fixture and Brighton facing the additional challenge of delivering away.
What about Arsenal and Manchester City? Their respective trips to Sunderland and Manchester United produce lower scoring projections of 1.8 and 1.7. Both remain capable of scoring twice, but the matchups put other teams ahead of them on this particular measure. Premier League forecast and match projections
Spain: Real Madrid and Barcelona Set the Pace
La Liga offers two standout candidates, followed by two more measured possibilities.
| Team to watch | Weekend fixture | Day | Projected team goals |
|---|---|---|---|
| Real Madrid | Real Madrid vs Rayo Vallecano | Saturday | 2.8 |
| Barcelona | Levante vs Barcelona | Sunday | 2.7 |
| Athletic Club | Athletic Club vs Elche | Saturday | 2.0 |
| Atlético Madrid | Real Sociedad vs Atlético Madrid | Sunday | 1.8 |
Real Madrid lead the Spanish shortlist. Their home fixture against Rayo Vallecano comes with a 2.8-goal projection, making them one of the stronger attacking candidates across all five leagues.
Barcelona follow closely. Their projected 2.7 goals away at Levante suggest that the venue does relatively little to reduce the model’s confidence in their attacking potential.
Athletic Club occupy the middle ground. A home match against Elche and a 2.0-goal estimate give them a credible case, although the gap between their projection and those of Madrid and Barcelona is significant.
Atlético Madrid are the more speculative inclusion. Their trip to Real Sociedad carries a 1.8-goal projection. Two goals are plausible, but this is a selection that deserves more restraint than enthusiasm.
The Spanish verdict: Madrid and Barcelona are the clearest candidates; Athletic and Atlético require more caution. La Liga forecast and match projections
Germany: The Strongest Group of Four
For readers looking for the broadest collection of promising two-goal candidates, the Bundesliga stands out this weekend.
| Team to watch | Weekend fixture | Day | Projected team goals |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bayern Munich | Elversberg vs Bayern Munich | Sunday | 3.3 |
| Borussia Dortmund | Borussia Dortmund vs Paderborn | Saturday | 2.7 |
| RB Leipzig | RB Leipzig vs Hamburg | Sunday | 2.7 |
| Freiburg | Freiburg vs Borussia Mönchengladbach | Saturday | 2.3 |
Bayern Munich carry the highest scoring projection in our entire watchlist. Their 3.3-goal estimate makes them the leading model-based candidate for at least two goals.
Dortmund and Leipzig both have home fixtures and identical projections of 2.7 goals. Their matches against Paderborn and Hamburg respectively offer stronger projected scoring opportunities than many of the weekend’s more evenly balanced contests.
Freiburg complete the German selection with a 2.3-goal estimate against Mönchengladbach. They may attract less attention than Bayern or Dortmund, but their fixture deserves a place in the discussion.
All four German selections have projections above two goals. That does not remove uncertainty, but it gives this group a stronger statistical foundation than the four-team selections in the other leagues. Bundesliga forecast and match projections
Italy: A Weekend for Selectivity
Serie A provides the clearest reminder that filling four spaces does not create four strong predictions.
| Team to watch | Weekend fixture | Day | Projected team goals |
|---|---|---|---|
| Atalanta | Atalanta vs Cagliari | Saturday | 1.9 |
| Juventus | Sassuolo vs Juventus | Sunday | 1.9 |
| Napoli | Napoli vs Bologna | Sunday | 1.5 |
| Genoa | Genoa vs Frosinone | Saturday | 1.4 |
Atalanta and Juventus offer the better cases within this Saturday–Sunday selection. Both have projected scoring totals of 1.9, placing them close to the two-goal threshold.
Napoli’s home advantage against Bologna brings them into consideration, but their 1.5-goal projection is noticeably weaker. Genoa, at 1.4, are a speculative fourth candidate rather than a firm recommendation.
The honest assessment is that Italy does not offer four convincing two-goal selections within this weekend’s fixtures.
Readers following the full match round should note Monday’s schedule. Inter host Udinese with a 2.7-goal projection, while Como host Parma with a 2.5-goal projection. Both offer stronger model-based cases than Napoli or Genoa, but their matches fall on 14 September, outside this article’s Saturday–Sunday window. Serie A forecast and match projections
France: PSG’s Projection Meets a Form Question
France presents an interesting distinction between attacking potential and recent results.
| Team to watch | Weekend fixture | Day | Projected team goals |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paris Saint-Germain | Brest vs PSG | Sunday | 3.1 |
| Lille | Lille vs Troyes | Sunday | 2.2 |
| Lens | Le Mans vs Lens | Sunday | 2.2 |
| Monaco | Strasbourg vs Monaco | Saturday | 1.9 |
PSG’s 3.1-goal projection makes them one of the strongest statistical candidates on the list. However, describing them as an in-form league side would overlook their difficult opening: they were winless after three Ligue 1 matches. Their inclusion rests on projected attacking potential rather than a strong run of league results. Reuters on PSG’s start
Lille and Lens both carry projections of 2.2 goals. Lille play at home against Troyes, while Lens travel to Le Mans.
Monaco complete the group at 1.9 projected goals away to Strasbourg. The forecast suggests a more competitive contest, making Monaco a less clear-cut selection than the other three. Ligue 1 forecast and match projections
What Could Change These Predictions?
Starting lineups matter. An absent striker, a rested creator or a change in attacking personnel can alter how a team approaches its match.
The game itself also has a vote. An early red card can reshape the contest. A team that scores first may protect its lead. Another may create enough chances for three goals and finish only one.
A projected average of 2.7 goals does not mean a team “should” score exactly three. It describes an expectation across possible outcomes, including matches in which the team scores fewer than twice.
The Weekend’s Main Talking Point
Bayern Munich lead the scoring projections, while Real Madrid, Barcelona and Dortmund also present strong cases. Liverpool offer an appealing home fixture, and Freiburg deserve attention beyond the usual headline clubs.
Italy calls for patience, and PSG call for a careful distinction between reputation, projection and form.
That is the value of looking at the opponent before picking the badge.
